In November, I took part in a month-long online fan celebration event focused around celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the video game franchise Jak and Daxter. Dubbed JakMonth, To do my part, I Illustrated 3 pieces for the 3 main titles of the franchise.

Jak and Daxter TPL was the first installment and by far the most cartoony one. Being a 3D platformer a lot of the gameplay was collecting items. As such I tried to keep the cartoony exaggeration the first installment of the series had. With Jak rocketing into the air for a collectable as Daxter drags behind hanging with excitement.

Since Jak 2 was a darker and more serious turn for Jak, I tried my best to display that lack of care he learnt from this new installment. Despite that, Daxter kept his goofier and cartoony personality from the first installment, so I kept that as well, showing the big constrast between the two games, and the big changes made.

Being more of a sendoff to the series, Jak 3 has a lot of calmer and more inner peace moments. Focusing more on the relationship of the characters, and emphasizing how much the duo has been through. I tried to interpret how I see Jak 3’s theme as being that of friendship. How despite everything the duo are best of friends until the end.
