San Esteban Church

Commissioned by Episcopal Church Planter William D. Llana, I was asked to design a logo for the new church San Esteban” that was being established at Santa Fe Subdivisions. He wanted something simple that respected the rules and requirements set by the Episcopal Church, and wanted it to be editable for whenever changes are asked by the church.

LOGO

From the start William provided me with a mockup of what he wanted the Logo to look like. He wanted the “T'“ in “San Esteban” to be an Ash Cross, to represent the tradition of Ash Wednesday. William also required that the Episcopal Emblem would be visible in the logo, and unedited, as it was against the rules set by the church. He wanted it bold, Simple and clear, and preferred for me to stick to the mockup.

CONCEPT SKETCHES

With the mockup as a guide, I drew a few sketches of the ash cross to present alongside with different typography.

In the end, William decided in a combination of the first and second cross and a bold serif font like the original the mockup had.

 DESIGNING AND ASSEMBLING

With the design approved and ready I put it into illustrator and made the Vector Logo alongside different layouts William could use for his documents, or shirts.

ONE MORE THING

While I was designing the logo William also asked me if I could design a stained glass mural that he could use and in the future build for the church that would eventually be built.

William sent me these two images as examples and guides for what he was looking for. A giant golden cross rising from an opened bible with a floating crown on top. He wanted the mural to look like the first example keeping the several glass shards and same colors and aesthetics.

And after a bit of sketching and confirmation he like the concept I finished it and sent it alongside the Logo.

FINAL PRINT

With the design finished I waited to see what would be done with the Logo. And Although I had no say on how it will be used and composed for different project, I hoped the church didn’t modify it too much from what I designed.

Unfortunately for me they did end up changing the design for the banners, opting for a bold sans serif, and enlarging the Episcopal Church Emblem. But the Ash Cross remains the same and unaltered so I’m glad about that.

As of now there aren’t any other prints or usage of the logo or stained Glass Mural, but I’ll update if anything else is done with the designs.
